A little blog about me
My vision through a lens:
Welcome to my website!
My goal is to create a portfolio of images and share what I am creating. Each photograph reflects my perspective - of landscapes, urbanscapes, abstracts and other creative captures. It speaks to a variety of my interests and developing skills and I hope that you find it as enjoyable as I did curating it.
For me, photography has become a journey of learning and self-discovery. I have gone from seeing the world around me to observing the world around me - the colours, the shapes, the textures and the tones.,
I am a photographer and I appreciate the opportunity to share my work with you.
A bit of background about me:
My interest in photography began way back in the 90s. I remember taking panning shots of after-burning F1-11s roaring overhead at the Avalon Air show. I thought to myself, hey this is fun! Over the proceeding years, I continued to take photos around my local area dropping my spent rolls off at the chemist or K-mart. I attempted magazine-based courses and visited galleries for inspiration.
But sometimes, as with many pursuits of passion, life happens and lamentably, photography took a back seat.
Then a few years ago something “clicked” and in a moment of inspiration, “taking up the camera” took on a whole new meaning for me. I came across a book of photos by Ansel Adams which captured my imagination like never before. Although I didn’t have the Yosemite Valley in my backyard, I had something just as unique - the Maribyrnong River Valley. And so, I sought to be my own version of a pioneering landscape photographer while walking along the river trail.
I spent many hours self-educating via library borrowed “coffee-table” books and YouTube, where I further discovered on-line photographers like Henry Turner, Mads Peter Iversen, Nigel Danson and Attilio Ruffo, who became my virtual educators and enhanced the photography experience for me. I learned more about composition and different photographic techniques while practicing around my local suburbs and waterways.
Then in 2023, I stumbled serendipitously into a part-time course at the Photography Studies College in South Melbourne. This offered me a new perspective again, which has taken me in other directions of learning, creativity and opportunities that continue strongly to this day.
As I continue on this path, the experiences and insights I’ve gained continue to shape my work, fostering a deeper appreciation for the art of photography and the stories it tells.
